Azealia Banks. Once an artist with undeniable talent who was poised to reach unseen heights in the music game, she has since become an iconoclast. She is known for her various feuds throughout the years, as well as her critical opinions on popular culture. Today, we’re going to use Azealia’s nativity, her Moon in particular, to glean some insight into who she is.

With the Sun in the 2nd house, that designates this chart as one of the night sect. The outcomes of Moon, Venus, and Mars become aligned with the direction of Azealia’s life, while those of the Sun, Jupiter, and Saturn are contrary to it. This means that Venus becomes predisposed to align with more beneficial outcomes in the native’s chart, while Saturn aligns more destructive ones.

The Moon in Azealia’s nativity is in Capricorn. Saturn, as its domicile lord, contributes its influence to her character in some significant ways. It would indicate someone who operates in privacy and is an excellent confidant. The malefic adds a tendency to hesitate, as well as an undercurrent of anxiety that plagues them. The person will be rather blunt in their expression, also holding strong opinions that they staunchly adhere to. The Ascendant being in Taurus, a fixed sign, adds testimony to a rigidity in the character.
Azealia’s Moon is located in the bounds of Jupiter. As always, I will be drawing from Dr. Ali A. Olomi’s translation of Islamicate astrologer Junawadi’s interpretations of this bound.
“ When the Moon is in the Bounds of Jupiter, they shall have mighty fortune from travel and trade and just dealings. […] The Moon in the bounds of Jupiter inclines the soul to the study of books and discussion of philosophy. ”
As for trade, the 2nd house, which covers topics of posessions, resources , and livelihood, is in Gemini. Mercury rules the 2nd house while located in the 1st house, therefore representing what the native relies on to sustain themselves. As Mercury is ruled by Venus, it will indicate that the native relies primarily on their own efforts, through artistic expression, in order to do so. Azealia is indeed a rapper who broke onto the scene with a vibrant flair, and a sound and flair that borrowed heavily from the ballroom scene.
For a time, she also ran her own online storefront known as CheapyXO, offering homemade natural skincare products such as soaps, lotions, and oils.

Banks has toured frequently since her arrival on the scene, from 2012 to current day. What’s more, the majority of her stops appear to be in the outside of the United States, catering to international audiences. Outside of that, Azealia has moved around rather frequently throughout her life – she has lived in Harlem, Vancouver, Los Angeles, London, and Switzerland. We can see testimony stack in regards to travel being an important portion of Azealia’s life in general, as the Moon is in the 9th house of long distance travel. The 9th house also happens to be governed by Saturn, itself associated with lengthy voyages. Furthermore, the Moon governs the 3rd house, itself tied to travel because of the significations that it absorbs from the queen luminary in the first place.
The South Node’s presence in the 9th adds some testimony in regards to experiencing difficulties during those journeys, further compounded by the Moon’s proximity to it. That emphasizes elements of instability in both matters tied to the Moon and the 9th house as well, telling us that Azealia will come to find troubles related to travels throughout the course of her life. True to such indications, the rapstress has found herself in conflict on multiple occasions while traveling internationally, sometimes with entire nations.
Azealia was born in Harlem, New York and, alongside her siblings, raised by a single mother. Her father died very early in her childhood due to pancreatic cancer. The dodecatemoria, or 12th part, of the Moon falls in Taurus, the 1st house. Azealia’s mother provided for her and her siblings by working as a clerk at an art supply store. However, their relationship was troubled. Though she kept the house maintained, Azealia’s mother was physically, verbally, and emotionally abusive to Azealia and her siblings. This abuse escalated to the point that at the age of 14, Azealia moved in with her sister.
The rapstress described these dynamics in a 2012 interview with Dazed Digital.
“But I moved out when I was 14 to go live with my older sister, because my mom just had, well… issues.” She rolls her eyes melodramatically. “After my dad died, my mom became really abusive – physically and verbally. Like she would hit me and my sisters with baseball bats, bang our heads up against walls, and she would always tell me I was ugly. I remember once she threw out all the food in the fridge, just so we wouldn’t have anything to eat. It was like growing up a feral child, being raised by this person who was always yelling and screaming, hitting you and dragging you around and shit.” She pauses, sweeping her hair from her face.“Granted, she never had any drug or drinking problems – her house was clean, her hair was always done, and we had stuff – but she still fucked me up real bad. “
The relationship seemingly worsened over time, as in 2020 Azealia shared screenshots of a text exchange with her mother, with her fending off brutal insults.

A screenshot of a text exchange between Azealia and her mother, which Azealia posted to her own Facebook page in 2020.
Upon her mother’s passing, Azealia expressed a feeling of relief at no longer being tied down by her presence.
The Moon is in Capricorn, its place of exile. This mean that it struggles to use Saturn’s influence to fulfill its essential nature, and attaches difficulties to its indiations – maternal figures being a large one. Furthermore, the Moon opposes Venus by sign. Venus can serve as an indicator of the mother in a night sect nativity, so an opposition between both can speak to some troubles there. The Lot of Mother is in Sagittarius, the 8th house of mortality, intoxicants, grief, and loss. It is ruled by Jupiter in the 4th, tying the Lot’s indications back to the family and affirming the connection between Azealia and her mother. The Lot doesn’t see the Moon, Venus, or the Ascendant, portending some issues there.
Saturn, an indicator of the father in a night chart, sits in a tight opposition to Mars in the 4th house of paternal lineage. Saturn’s dodecatemoria lands in the 12th house of Aries, establishing another link from the father to Mars. Mars itself is adhering to the Imum Coeli, the angle of the nativity that represents home and family. Mars also sends a trine to the Lot of Mother, tying that into the turmoil even further.
Such potent malefic presence in these areas adds testimony to the chaos and struggle that took place as Azealia was growing up.
