The ramblings of a man with his mind in the stars.

Hello, my friends. We have gathered here for one purpose, and one purpose only ; to peer into the nativity of one Beyoncé Giselle Knowles-Carter . This is a woman who has embedded herself into mainstream culture in several ways throughout the past three decades. Undeniably, she is a household name in households throughout the world! Much more than simply a generationally talented singer, Beyoncé is also a dancer, choreographer, writer, actress, philanthropist, businesswoman and executive. Throughout the course of this nativity analysis, we will see what her own chart says about the woman behind the persona, as well as the indicators of her renown. Without further ado, let’s jump into it.

Beyoncé Giselle Knowles was born in Houston, Texas on September 4, 1981 to Tina and Mathew Knowles. We begin this analysis by looking at her Moon placement, which gives us insight on the native’s mind, morals, and health, among other things. Beyoncé’s Moon is placed in watery Scorpio, telling us that she is bold by nature with some impulsivity mixed in. The sign would also indicate shrewdness, which doubles as an easily aroused sense of suspicion. When doubled with both a sharp tongue and a tendency to lash out if aggrieved, it is simple to imagine that Beyoncé is not a person who you would want to cross – we can see her echo that sentiment in across her discography, but none so plainly as in the song DAUGHTER.

They keep sayin’ that I ain’t nothin’ like my father,
But I’m the furthest thing from choir boys and altars
If you cross me, I’m just like my father
I am colder than Titanic water

Need I remind you that when the Titanic sunk, the waters around it were 28 degrees farenheit. That’s 4 degrees below freezing temperature. The imagery evoked aligns perfectly with the capability for vengeful retaliation that is often attributed to the Mars-governed Scorpio.

However, the Moon in Scorpio can also highlight an inherent anxiousness in the native. This happens to be compounded in Beyoncé’s nativity, as not only is the Moon in the bounds of the planet Saturn, but it also resides in the 8th house. Both indications strengthen the Moon’s connection to that anxiousness. These are also markers of a shy and timid individual at heart ; Saturn is a planet that possesses an essential nature of darkness, it obscures, it hides, it delays. In the bounds of Saturn, the Moon’s indications for the native’s social capacity can be dampened. This is even further attested to by the Moon already being fallen in the sign of Scorpio. From her childhood, Beyoncé was a quiet and withdrawn individual, and she credits her shyness for serving to facilitate an empathy that is at the core of many of her endeavors today. The following is an excerpt from an interview that she did with Harper’s Bazaar magazine in 2021.

The first decade of my life was dedicated to dreaming. Because I was an introvert, I didn’t speak very much as a child. I spent a lot of time in my head building my imagination. I am now grateful for those shy years of silence. Being shy taught me empathy and gave me the ability to connect and relate to people.

Beyoncé’s shyness was also pervasive enough to lead her to create an alter ego : Sasha Fierce, who she would transition into whenever she performed. Sasha Fierce represented the bombastic, dynamic, dramatic, confident side of Beyoncé – something that aligns perfectly with the Aries rising in her nativity. Later on in her career, Beyoncé absorbed that persona into herself, representing the unification of those two facets of herself into her whole self. Like the Moon in Scorpio, the Ascendant is governed by Mars, and so there are some attributes the two share – the boldness and impulsivity in Scorpio are also attested to in Aries, as are the sharp tongue and the wrathful tendencies. Those are par for the course for signs that receive influence from the planet of severing and conflict. True to its essential nature, Mars exhibiting itself through a fiery and tropical Aries can speak to a marked bravery in the native as well. All are qualities that we see in the artist through the subject matter of her music, as well as in the content and theming of her performances. Sensuality is an ever present theme throughout her music, which is also rather poignant because not only is the Ascendant in Aries, a lusty sign, but its domicile lord Mars occupies Leo, another lusty sign. Songs like Ego, Drunk in Love, Partition, and Tyrant all exhibit this prurience well.

We can also gather much from this fallen Moon operating in the bounds of an exalted Saturn.

Now, follow me for a little. The Moon can give us insight to Beyoncé’s mother impact on her – the legendary in her own right Tina Knowles, whom the songstress emphatically speaks of as a role model. Beyoncé attributes the development of her own work ethic to watching Tina work 18 hour days in her salon, yet still balance that with being a present mother to her and Solange in childhood. The following is another excerpt from the singer’s 2021 interview with Harper’s Bazaar.

My mother has always been my Queen and still is. She has always been so strong and is filled with humanity. She worked 18 hours a day with calloused hands and swollen feet. No matter how tired she was, she was always professional, loving, and nurturing. I try to handle my work and run my company in the same way. […]

That work ethic and discipline that were instilled in her by watching Tina are qualities that enabled Beyoncé to focus on her aspirations from her youth. Facilitated by the support of her parents, she dedicated herself to honing her craft and taking advantage of every opportunity that she was able to in order to showcase her talent. Even in her teenage years, Beyoncé did not allow herself to succumb to anything that could possibly distract her from her goals, giving every ounce of herself over to effort. As a result, though she did manage to see great success as the lead singer of Destiny’s Child and later on as a solo artist, she did sacrifice much in the undertaking.

Here is an excerpt from an interview that Beyonce did with GQ in 2013.

I worked so hard during my childhood to meet this goal: By the time I was 30 years old, I could do what I want […] I’ve reached that. I feel very fortunate to be in that position. But I’ve sacrificed a lot of things, and I’ve worked harder than probably anyone I know, at least in the music industry. So I just have to remind myself that I deserve it.

At the same time, though Beyoncé continued to focus and work incredibly hard on achieving even loftier goals, these efforts unfortunately led her to compromise the health of her body on numerous occasions. She has spoken at length about this relationship between her cognizance of her body’s own needs and her work ethic, which manifested in a few ways. Here are a few excerpts from the Harper’s Bazaar interview that I referenced numerous times before.

“ In the past, I spent too much time on diets, with the misconception that self-care meant exercising and being overly conscious of my body.

Now, while the Moon may operate in the bounds of an exalted Saturn, which does give it a bit of cushion, it is still a fallen Moon. Furthermore we can see that, as the Sun is in the 6th house, this is a nocturnal sect nativity, which highlights Saturn as the malefic that is predisposed to align with more notable difficulties in the native’s life. An exalted Saturn would highlight discipline and work ethic in the native, particularly because it serves as a custodian of Beyoncé’s soul, but the Moon does not make any connection to Saturn. That speaks to a disconnect with the influence of Saturn that serves as an environment of the Moon. The Moon, indicative of the native’s physical and emotional health, is fallen in Scorpio on top of that. To me, that configuration (or lack thereof) indicates the difficult relationship between Beyoncé’s work ethic and her health. To add to this, Saturn governs Beyoncé’s 10th house, which is the area of the nativity that indicates one’s career and social standing. Whether it was for album rollouts and movie press earlier in her career, or record-breaking international concert tours in the past 5 years, travel has been a frequently recurring element throughout her life. Though she most certainly has gained in numerous ways as a result of those efforts, those gains did not come without burdens.

Cue up the Harper’s Bazaar interview quote!

“ I think like many women, I have felt the pressure of being the backbone of my family and my company and didn’t realize how much that takes a toll on my mental and physical well-being. I have not always made myself a priority. I’ve personally struggled with insomnia from touring for more than half of my life. Years of wear and tear on my muscles from dancing in heels. The stress on my hair and skin, from sprays and dyes to the heat of a curling iron and wearing heavy makeup while sweating on stage. I’ve picked up many secrets and techniques over the years to look my best for every show. But I know that to give the best of me, I have to take care of myself and listen to my body.

Insomnia is a condition that aligns with a fallen, Mars-ruled Moon. The Moon is indicative of one’s slumber, and being governed by a fiery Mars, the planet of disruption and disturbance, would indicate the native being unable to properly rest. To add to this, Mars and the Moon square one another by sign.

However, the 8th house is also the area in the nativity that represents intoxicants and substances. Again, we know that the Moon is here. However, on top of that, Scorpio is the sign that serves as the 8th house of the nativity as well. Let us look at the particular remedies that Beyoncé uses in order to combat these difficulties that she developed from her rigorous career moves.

” During quarantine, I went from overindulgences to creating positive rituals drawing from past generations and putting my own spin on things. I discovered CBD on my last tour, and I’ve experienced its benefits for soreness and inflammation. It helped with my restless nights and the agitation that comes from not being able to fall asleep. I found healing properties in honey that benefit me and my children. And now I’m building a hemp and a honey farm. I’ve even got hives on my roof! “

First of all, CBD is a byproduct of marijuna, typically used in the form of an oil. (but also available in many other forms) What did we just say the 8th house indicates? Not only that, but Saturn itself governs substances that induce lethargy or inertia. Secondly, Beyoncé not only having a fanbase named “The Beyhive”, but also relying on the support of literal bees is almost too thematically on the nose. The 8th house is governed by Mars, which also represents stinging animals… like bees. On top of that, though, the sign Scorpio itself actually being an insect? Yeah, recurring themes.

To close this part of the analysis, we will draw a brief snippet from Dr. Olomi’s translation of Junawadi’s delineations of the Moon through the bounds.

” […] Despite great delays and difficulties great wealth can be accumulated and they shall relish in their legacy, that is their children and family enjoying a long and esteemed life. […] “

In conclusion, I would just like to thank my amazing girlfriend, who’s been encouraging me to publish this since Beyoncé revealed her birth to the public. She helped me so much with the planning of this by confirming questions that I had and leading me in the right direction with her expert Beyhive knowledge. I love you, honeydip!

Also shout out to everyone who believed that Beyoncé’s nativity was Mars-ruled from the jump! Til next time, y’all.
